POINT
POLICIES, 2008-2009
This is a list of the policies for enrollment in the POINT program. You
need to understand and support these policies before applying for enrollment. Please read them carefully
and contact us with questions if there is any area in which you need clarification. Thank you!
1. Volunteer Assignments – POINT families will
have the opportunity to support the program by signing up to assist in the areas of snack contribution and help for special
events. A list of program needs will be posted for the parents to reference when signing up.
2. Christ-honoring Communication – At POINT we are committed to maintaining an environment that is Christ-honoring.
All concerns or suggestions regarding POINT issues in the classroom, as well as interpersonal issues with leaders or
fellow members, are to be handled in a proper manner, and are to be addressed to the appropriate leader. Christ-honoring
communication is a basic biblical principal, and will allow us to avoid creating an opening for dissension in our group.
3. Website – Please take advantage of the website
(www.POINT-homeschool.org). In addition to several resources and informative pages, there are links on the site that allow you to
submit your own messages, articles, or questions. Our annual calendar of events is posted there as well,
and is updated through the course of the year.
4. Attendance – We ask that the parent(s) in
our group attend at least four of our ten events each year in the area of Parent Support. Events will consist
of family functions, student programs, workshops in the areas of education, family, marriage, home, practical skills, and
spiritual growth, etc. These are designed for the benefit of our members, and to further our commitment
to the homeschooling effort. Exceptions to the attendance policy must be handled via a written petition
to Leadership.
5.
Home Businesses
– Many home businesses are represented within our group members. While we are very supportive of
home businesses as a way of providing income in a setting that allows you to homeschool, we do ask that you do not directly
approach anyone during POINT activities or use the POINT directory for the purpose of solicitation. You
may request to have flyers distributed with information or open invitations in regard to your business at our events.
We wish you success in your home business but ask you to pursue this on your own time.
6. Sales & Fundraisers – Many participate
in fundraisers and sales for private organizations. We have a “no-sales” policy at POINT functions.
We will, however, permit sales for POINT fundraisers, as well as church/missions-related programs. Please
contact leadership for pre-approval.
7. Children’s
Behavior – POINT has a very high standard for children’s conduct.
We endeavor to set a Christ-like example to the world around us. Any children participating in a
POINT event must adhere to a high standard of conduct, or be removed from the event. No insulting talk,
negative physical contact, or lack of respect for authority or other persons will be tolerated.
8. Childcare Policy – POINT will endeavor to
offer on-site childcare for babies and toddlers during Parent Support events. A nominal suggested donation
will be established to cover materials and snacks.
9. Health
and Wellness – Attendance at POINT events is prohibited if signs of
contagious illness (i.e. fever, vomiting, diarrhea, draining eyes, etc.) have been experienced within the 24 hours previous
to meeting time. This restriction applies to both children and adults.
10. Dress and Conduct Code –There is to be no
use of alcohol or tobacco products or profane language while at any POINT event. Children will conduct
themselves in a quiet and orderly fashion, and will treat the facility with great care and respect. Parents are responsible
for any damage that their family may cause. Dress is to be modest - no obscene or questionable
decals or messages on T-shirts, no midriffs showing, and shoes must be worn. Girls’ shirts or dresses
must have straps that are at least two fingerbreadths across, and hems of shorts or skirts must be below fingertips when arms
are hanging at sides. Piercing accessories, other than in ears, must be removed while at POINT events, and any tattoos must
be covered. Appearance needs to be modest and respectful in accordance with a conservative public opinion,
and fashions that make a “rebellious” statement will not be permitted. Please contact leadership
if you need clarification on this.
11. Payment of
Fees – The annual enrollment fee will be paid by mail or in person
on or before August 1st of each year. Enrollment fees are non-refundable. Contact
leadership if you have special financial needs, and we will gladly work with you on an individual basis. Some
scholarship funds are available.
12. Withdrawal – If, after enrolling, you decide to withdraw, please notify us so we can adjust our records.
13. Visitor Policy –POINT does not allow “unregistered”
visitors to attend POINT events. Please contact leadership in advance to request to register a visitor
for a single event.
14. Special Needs
–“Special needs”
is defined at POINT as anything that would cause a student to be unable to participate in classes, as scheduled, requiring
changes in courses, lesson plans, adult helpers, or the student’s environment to accommodate individual needs.
In case of questions, or if you think this may apply to your child, please contact leadership for details on what constitutes
“special needs” prior to applying for enrollment.
